Colt Frontier Six Shooter
The Single Action Army "P" and all its variants
used .45 cartridges. In 1873 the Winchester rifle that used
.44 WCF (Winchester Centre Fire) cartridges was introduced
and became extremely popular. During the mid 1880s the Colt
Company modified the Peacemaker to use the same .44 cartridges
and named it the Colt Frontier Six Shooter. The practice of
reloading one's cartridges was common in outlying areas. The
Frontier gave cowboys and rangers the advantage of being able
to carry two types of weapons that used the same calibre ammunition.
